Peculiarities of atmospheric circulation above northern and southern areas of Kam-chatka cause differences in glacier regime of mountain-glacier regions. On the basis of circulation types' classification by A.A.Girs, used for analysing long rows of annual sums of precipitation and mean summer temperatures of the air, and also from the reconstructed mass balance of Kozelskiy, Koryto and Grechishkin glaciers, it became possible to reveal the basic tendencies in the development of present-day glaciers of the peninsula up to 1996. In the last decade and the pentad of 1980-1985 the majority of glaciers were nearly stationary, responding by small fluctuations of re gime properties to short-time climatic changes. The shift in the values of annual mass balance to negative values and retreat of the majority of glaciers termini is expected after 1985. Present-day explosive volcanism of the region may introduce well-pronounced corrections into these predictions, primarily by controllong ablation regime on glaciers.
